Fix Hard Disk 3f0 Error – A Hard Disk 3F0 error is a common boot error seen on HP models. Generally, hard disk boot errors can be caused by a whole host of issues, from things as simple as having an incorrect BIOS boot sequence or the hard drive not properly being plugged in to boot sector viruses or a corrupted hard disk partition.

What Causes the Boot Device Not Found 3F0 Error?

To fix the “boot device not found error” in the HP computer, you must first know the reasons that may cause this error on your PC. After going through users reports I have listed the following reasons:

• Using the unbootable device or disk for booting the computer.
• When the bootable hard drive is corrupted/damaged.
• If there is a presence of virus or malware on your computer.
• Using the wrong boot order in the BIOS.
• If the MBR/boot sector is corrupted.
• When a hard disk has any kind of connection problem.
• If the boot files or system files get damaged or corrupted.
• Due to the corrupted hard drive partitions.

How to Fix Hard Disk 3f0 Error?

1. Hard Reset Your Laptop

To perform a hard reset on a laptop with a removable battery, follow these steps:

1. First, Turn off the system
2. Disconnect the laptop from every connected device and remove the power cord
3. Take out the battery from its compartment
4. Press the Power button and hold it down for at least 15 seconds
5. Put the battery back in and connect the AC adapter
6. Turn the laptop on
7. If booting takes place normally, connect all the needed devices to the laptop.

If you own a laptop with a non-removable battery, perform the same steps without attempting to take out the battery, of course.

2. Reset BIOS to its Default Settings

1. Turn off the computer and let it rest for at least 5 seconds
2. Turn on the computer > press F10 while booting takes place to access the BIOS menu
3. After being prompted the BIOS menu, press F9 to choose and load the BIOS Setup Default settings
4. Press F10 to have the changes saved and exit the BIOS
5. Choose Yes and press Enter
6. Restart the computer and see if it fixed the issue.

3. Use the HP Hardware Diagnostics Tool

1. Turn on the computer and keep tapping Esc until a menu opens > press F2
2. In the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics menu, select Components Tests
3. Select Hard Drive > Quick Test > Run Once
4. If you have more than one drive, select Test All Hard Drives
5. Wait until the process finishes, then the results will prompt on the screen
6. If the issues persist after completing the Quick Test, choose to perform the Extensive Test.

4. Test the Hard Drive Using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics

1. Plug the AC adapter into the computer.
2. Press the Power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
3. Turn on the computer and press Esc repeatedly. When the menu appears, press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
4. On the main menu of HP PC Hardware Diagnostics, click Component Tests. And then click Hard Drive > Quick Test > Run once successively.
5. If the computer has more than one hard drive, select the drive you want to test. To test all the hard drives, select Test All Hard Drives. Then, the Hard Drive Quick Test begins.
6. When the test completes, the results will be displayed on the screen and also in Test Logs on the main menu.

5. Reconnect your Hard Drive

1. This is a delicate task. If you can’t complete it by yourself, ask for professional help.
2. Reconnect the hard drive following these steps:
   1. Turn the computer off and remove the power cable
   2. If you have a removable battery, take it out
   3. Disconnect your hard drive and then connect it back
3. Reassemble your computer and turn the computer on to see if it fixed the issue.

6. Fix and Rebuild Damaged MBR

The Master Boot Record (MBR) is a part of your hard disk that helps to find where is your OS located to be loaded on your PC’s RAM. 

So, the boot device not found error may typically also occur if there is anything wrong with your MBR. MBR damage can happen due to several reasons, such as malware or virus attacks, MBR overwrites, or disk failure. In any of these cases, you need to rebuild the MBR to fix the problem.

7. Fix your Operating System

If your OS folders or files have been deleted or lost or corrupted accidentally, then it will lead you to major problems including the boot device not detected 3f0 error.

Hence, to fix this error, you need to do the following:

• Take any of the Windows installation discs or CDs/DVDs or USB flash drives and connect them to the PC.
• Launch the Command Prompt while installation process.
• Go to the System Recovery Options tab and click on the Startup Repair if you are a Windows 7 user.
• For Windows 8/10 users, click on the Repair your computer > select the Troubleshoot > click on the Advanced options > select Automatic Repair (for Windows 8) / Startup Repair (for Windows 10).

This trick should work to fix this problem that prevents Windows from starting or loading.

8. Replace the Hard Disk

This should not be the last option for you as replacing the hard disk costs and you will lose your data too. So, before buying the new Hard Disk for your PC, you must try an external Hard Disk. Then, see if after doing this you can access the drive. If you can access it, then you don’t need to replace it.
